I had an hour technical interview where 45 minutes of it was the hiring manager giving a slideshow presentation about the company. It told me exactly what I wanted to know about the company and what my work would be like at that company. I walked away from that interview genuinely confused. It was one of the few times where I felt I needed to give detailed feedback to the recruiter because it was just so... strange.

@sudorandom That would be an immediate turn-off for me. If I'm being presented to in an interview, I can only imagine how the HM would treat me as an employee.

@sudorandom As an interviewer: Had a candidate walk into an interview with a long list of certifications (which we didn't require) and "senior" in front of their most recent job title. Getting answers about the basics of their professed field was like pulling teeth, and that feedback was consistent across other interviewers.

As an interviewee: I was applying for an out-of-state role, and the company kept pressuring me to make a decision quickly even though I was also in the final rounds of interviews with another company. Their repeated insistence that I give an answer "right now" ultimately led me not to go with them, and my career was certainly better off for it.

@CiscoJunkie oh man, with the job being out of state that seems incredibly insensitive to pressure you to make a decision quickly. Relocation isn't ever an easy process. I put most of the pressure on myself when dealing with offers on the table... I'm lucky to have a wife who's very decisive and willing to make large changes quickly. This is partly why we were able to move to Denmark from Texas. I don't think we could have done it if we weren't willing to make the "wrong" decision.
